A McClintock staff member was recognized in the 2019 Celebrating Champions for Youth Awards, sponsored by the Tempe Coalition.

Jose Hernandez, McClintock Food Services Manager, was named the Adult Inspiration Award winner. The award is given to a teacher, community worker, counselor or coach who has inspired Tempe youth to live to their full potential.

Students and staff from sister-school Tempe High were also recognized by the Tempe Coalition, a non-profit dedicated to helping Tempe youth reach their full potential by reducing underage drinking and drug use. The coalition falls under the City of Tempe’s Committee for Youth, Families and Community, and is comprised of community leaders, business partners, education leaders, students and volunteers.

All award winners will be honored at the 3rd annual Celebrating Champions of Youth Awards ceremony at Compadre Academy on November 13th starting at 5:30pm. Hernandez will receive a congratulatory letter, a certificate of recognition, and will be highlighted at the event.

Jose Hernandez will receive our #Inspiration Award at our #CC4Y #event on Nov. 13th! Jose is the food services #manager at McClintock High School @mcclintockspirit Jose has taken his #job #responsibilities to a #new level. Not only does he ensure that #students receive breakfast and lunch, he stops to #interact with them on a #daily basis. For many students, he’s the one #consistent #adult that they interact with every #morning. Because Jose is always #present, students #trust him. They tell him what’s happening at home. They open up and let Jose in because they know he’ll be there every single day. They don’t expect him to #fix the things that are #wrong in their lives. They just know that he’ll be there every morning offering a hot meal, a #smile and an extra side of genuine #compassion. #ThankYou for all your hard work, Jose! We #appreciate you! @tuhsd_news #TempeCoalition
