Artist paints mural on campus

Artist and McClintock alumni Nick Rascona, class of 2012, returned to his alma mater to paint a mural in the art corridor.

Art teacher Stacy Marko  asked Rascona last year if he would be willing to come back and do a mural.  In the fall, Marko applied for a City of Tempe Arts Grant.

“I knew that one of the many things he was doing was mural work and I thought it would be pretty cool to have a former student come back and still be part of McClintock,” Marko said. “He has worked with the Phoenix Art Museum doing the “Make It” program as well as Discount Tire free family weekend doing hands on projects.”

He came in, talked to the students about murals, proposals, ideas, how to gather, refine and present ideas.  He had students come up with ideas, he had ideas, presented the final idea, started painting, and altered it some more.

“Rascona has incorporated education aspects to his work, so I knew he would be a perfect fit,” Marko said.
