McClintock High School’s Julie Duarte was named the 2018 Runner-Up Arizona EL Teacher of the Year.

Duarte was honored by the Arizona Department of Education’s Office of English Language Acquisition Services (OELAS). She was chosen by a judging panel of educators from across the state.

Duarte works as a Literacy Specialist at McClintock High School, and teaches English Language Development.

“Every day I get to work with the some best kids,” she said at the 2018 OELAS Conference in Tucson. “They are the bravest people I know. I learn something from them every day.”

OELAS is invested in the success of English learners and migrant students, using the expertise and the cumulative experience of the practitioners in Arizona to guide LEAs, teachers, and families in compliant and effective ways to support student achievement.
