School year kicks off with new attendance policy
August 19, 2015
McClintock will be having some new attendance policies for the 2015-2016 school year. All students are required to follow the new policy, to help improve individual students’ performances during the school year.
The new overall absence policy is for students who choose not to come to class for more than 11 days in a semester. These students will be dropped from that class, and they will receive no credit for the course.
The absences include all unexcused and excused. The only types of absences that do not affect 11 absence limits are those of an emergency in the family, emergency health problems, or anything school related such as field trips or athletic absences.
Parents are not allowed to call in their child if he or she will be late but still arrive during their first hour class. The parent is required to walk in with the student and sign them in as late. If a parent isn’t present, then the student is automatically sent to sweep.
Any students who choose to be late to any class will be sent to sweep in room 1002 for the entire class period. If a student is swept, then he or she will have no extra days to make up any classwork.
This new policy isdistrict-wide, and it is used to discourage unnecessary absences and improve the overall performance of students.
According to the McClintock student achievement data, it shows that students who have a higher attendance rate perform better than students with an excessive amount of absences.
McClintock’s goal is to get all students to understand that failure is not an option. The new attendance policy is one step closer to making McClintock an excelling school.
