McClintock High School received its fourth consecutive “A” rating last year and is one of only three TUHSD schools to have “A’s” for all four years the grading system has been used.
“We have maintained our “A” rating by continuing to focus on teaching the curriculum and using the intervention program to make sure students can understand the material necessary to pass and exceed on the AIMS test,” principal Derek Hoffland said.
“We held stable in reading and writing, we had a really nice increase in math… and we pretty much held stable in science as well,” Hoffland said.
“I’m really proud of the way that more students passed more classes,” he said.
The percentage of students that passed all their classes increased from just below 67% to above 79% from the 2012-2013 year to the 2013-2014 year. This overall improvement in effort and understanding certainly contributed to the excellent rating the school received.
Not only looking back on our recent accomplishments, but thinking towards the future, Hoffland said, “I expect us all to do our very best every single day—I couldn’t say it any more simply than that… and that extends from me to every single person on this campus; I don’t care what their job is or what grade they’re in. I just think that’s important.”
Corona del Sol and Desert Vista were the other two TUHSD schools to receive their fourth “A” or “Excellent” rating. For the first time, all six of the comprehensive schools in the district received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education.
