Politicians visit campus

Tues., Sept. 6, government teacher Michael Turturice recently had four representatives from each political party come and speak to his classes about what their party stands for and the background about it.

Joe Russell from the Democratic Party was the first to speak upon his political party and what their main focus is on in society today.

“The best way I heard the Democratic Party stood for was that our country is stronger together. We are better when we work together as one country to try and make sure that everyone has the same opportunity and ability to succeed and grow,” Russell said.

Russell has viewed Hillary Clinton in action and has some strong views about her work ethics and what she can do as a president of the United States.

“Hillary Clinton has decades upon decades of experience and a demonstrative record of doing what’s best for average Americans,” Russell said.

On the reverse side of the Democrats, there is the Republic Party and the representative of this Republic was Robert Graham.

“One thing about the Republic Party is that we celebrate individualism. We want you to be successful. Young people are the future,” Graham said.

Graham works close by Donald Trump and wants to get the point across that government is needed in society.

“ When we talk about government, people say we don’t need government but we do because there are elements in the government that protects us in so many different ways,” Graham said.

Many people are familiar with the two most common parties; Democrats and Republics, but they are not very informed about the other two running parties that social media vaguely discusses.

Linda Macias from the Green Party spoke to the students about what the Green party is all about and what their morals and goals are as a political party.

“We are trying to build from the bottom up and show people that this is a party that wants to be the party of the people,” Macias said.

The Green Party is about education and how people can get a better education by not spending so much money on resources and tuition.

“Jill Stein [Candidate runner] is big on having higher education be free and it doesn’t cost you” Macias said. “Stein feels the way they can do that is by cutting the military budget by 50%.”

Macias talked about how the Green Party believes in women’s right to make their own choice about what they want to do with their own body.

“The Green Party is also in favor for the right to choose. A woman should have the right to choose what she does with her body and that the government has no place in making that decision,” Macias said.

Unfortunately, Barry Hess was unable to make it and had a substitute to represent the Libertarian Party. He spoke on behalf of what the Libertarian Party believes in.

The Libertarian Party believes in an a rule known as the Non-Aggression Principles, N.A.Ps, it’s the idea that you are not allowed to initiate force for any purpose unless used for self-defense. People are able to have freedom as long as it doesn’t effect others.

The Libertarian Party follows three simple rules. Don’t hurt people, don’t take their stuff and keep your word.
