Each year, students have trouble with keeping high grades and balancing extracurriculars in school, but some seniors and counselors are able to provide advice on how to be sucessful in high school.
“[Students] need to give full effort, be in school ever single day, and never settle for less than they’re capable of,” counselor Melinda Coronado said. “[They] need to be performing at their full potential every single year.”
Some seniors have known where they were going to college for years, and have been working as hard as they could to be accepted. Students should try to keep their grades high to get into the colleges they want.
“As you start filling out college applications, you realize how important it is to have advanced level classes on your transcript,” senior Theresa Lobato said. “It’s never too early to start worrying about college. By sophomore year, have an idea of where you want to apply.”
While procrastination is easy to do, if you want to stay successful in school you should study as much as you can instead.
“I only studied when I thougth I needed to,” counselor Wendy Kozloski said. “If I had scheduled time to study every subject a little bit every night, I would have been much more successful in school.”
Advanced placement and Peggy Payne Academy classes may seem like they’ll be impressive on a transcript, but sudents need to be sure they can handle all the work they give.
“It’s always good to challenge yourself, but if you’re not going to commit the time difficult classes require it’s not worth the time,” Kozloski said.
As long as students work hard and put in the effort their classes require of them, they’ll have a much easier time being successful in high school.
“It’s not the teacher failing you, it’s you failing yourself,” Kozloski said. “They won’t get hurt by the bad grade, you will.”
