On Mon. Oct. 27, McClintock Guidon took nine students to the ASU to participate in the Arizona Interscholastic Press Association fall convention, in where students had the chance to part take of different sessions throughout the day.
The convention was based on telling a story in your writing and when you speak to someone to intrigue them into the story.
“Find your voice to tell your story in a unique way; most important thing to do is to tell stories, along with being informative there is art in telling stories,” KTAR radio host Bruce Saint-Smith said.
At the convention students engaged in different session that discuss different techniques that journalists can use to improve writing, photography and stylistic layouts and social media.
“Journalists need to build trust with their audience by being original, by making me feel something. Make me care about something that I didn’t,” Smith said.
In the sessions a journalist learned to better their writing by learning how to improve pieces such as: Opinion, News, Arts and Entertainment, Campus News etc. Students have the chance to use these tips in stories.
“Getting that foot in the door, it is important to do this if wanting to peruse this career,” Smith said.
Not only did students receive tips on journalistic writing but also about photography, social media and entertainment.
“Content is king, don’t confuse the medium of the content music was always a passion; music existed all the time songs never change,” Smith said.
