“Dia De Los Reyes”

Jan. 6 is a holiday in Mexico known as “Dia De Los Reyes” or Epiphany. This holiday represents the day three wise men traveled a great distance to bring baby Jesus gifts.

In Mexico, it is basically tradition that gifts are exchanged on this holiday instead of Christmas.

Mexico, like many other countries doesn’t consider Santa Claus as a big deal like people do in the United States. No, instead it’s the three wise men that are known to give children gifts.

A big feast is to be celebrated on this holiday. One eats Rosca de Reyes, a sweet round Mexican bread, decorated with slices of candied fruit. Rosca, is shaped roundly to symbolize a king’s crown.

People either buy Rosca de reyes or make it themselves. Baked inside are little baby Jesuses and whoever finds them shall be hosting an upcoming party called, “ Dia De La Candelaria”.
