Every year the Annual Grammy Awards happen at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry. The 57th Grammy Awards take place on Feb. 8, 2015.

Popular interest, and being well known is some of the factors that qualify the nominees for a nomination.

The very first Grammy Awards happened in 1958; the Grammys have been a tradition for 57 years. Throughout the years, the Grammy’s have developed in many ways. When a nominee wins for their category, they receive an award in the shape of a gramophone, with their name engraved on it.

The artists have a chance to be nominated because of the many categories. There used to be well over 100 categories now they’re only 83. The most known categories are, Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year.

“I think Sam Smith should win the award because he has a beautiful voice that everyone loves,” freshman Jennifer Granillo said.

The nominees for the Top Artist of the Year for the 57th Awards are Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clark, Haim and Sam Smith. When it comes to the nominees there are people who are in favor, and people who would argue about them.

“Iggy Azalea has good music and is one of the newer artist,” freshman Michelle Carreto said

Overall, the Grammy’s happen on Feb. 8th, and it will be the 57th Grammy Awards, which will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
