The marching band played at Valley Christian High School last Friday. They performed two songs and supported the football team throughout the night.

“When I’m on vacation I look at the music and practice fingerings. Marching band helps me build technique with my instrument,” freshman Hector Bay said.

Marching band prepares for a football game by practicing on the field either before or after school, depending on the day. However, individual work can greatly affect the outcome of the performance.

“When we prepare for a football game you have to have everything ready and be on time,” senior Antonio Sanchez said.

The students that participate in marching band are responsible for confirming they have everything required.

“We make sure we’re all together and schedule a time when everyone is available,” Sanchez said.

The marching band groups meet up at a scheduled time to discuss and practice their music. To prepare, they need to memorize the music so they can focus on moving their feet.

“I thought marching band was a great opportunity to express my school spirit,” freshman Marlena Whitehair said.

Marching band works hard to support the football team and promotes school spirit.
