The Drama program held auditions for their premier show this year, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, last week, and has already begun working hard at rehearsal. The show will feature senior and Masque and Gavel co-president Ben Pope in the lead role of Jacques Clouseau.

The program is led by Tim Cornwell, the drama/ theater teacher. The fall play is a big event for the drama program; not only does it start the year off, but most new actors get recruited from the turnout at the fall play auditions.

“As a senior, the fall play is really exciting to [get to] see all this young talent. This year for drama president I would really like to see the program go above and beyond, maximizing/increasing our funding and being able to do shows that bring more people in and have more people giving drama the credit we’ve fought so hard for,” Pope said. “[ I want us] to really grow as a program, get more actors involved, and get us to the level of a sport as far as recognition from the student populace,”

The drama program puts on four shows over the length of the school year: the fall play, the musical, the student-written/directed one acts, and the spring play. Co-president Erin Granillo-Walker says she would like for this year’s shows to “generate a lot of buzz in the community”.

The show will open Thurs., Sept.15 in McClintock’s Boyle Auditorium, and will run additional performances on the following Friday and Saturday. The show will start at 7 pm on Thursday and Friday, and at 3 pm on Saturday.
