The winter assembly is a large performance put on by the Fine Arts Department to make the rest of the school more cognizant of itself. The higher levels of each department- band, orchestra, drama, choir, and dance, performed in front of the entire school on Mon, Dec 4.
The is often a big deal for the performers, as it will be a large turnout with everyone not participating in the event sitting in the audience. Some performers prepare for weeks beforehand, yet others take only a couple weeks for preparations.
“We fit it in with the rest of our music, so we might cut down on other pieces.” senior orchestra player Philip Conn said.
The performers must also rehearse for their regularly scheduled concerts. For some, the time they receive to prepare is often not enough.
“We usually do a piece from one of our concerts anyways,” Conn said.
The assembly is a way to get more people interested in the fine arts program. Many students have next to no idea what it does and is about, so it’s an opportunity to get a better insight on what happens.
“We show the student body our choral talents and spread the word,” senior A Cappella singer Jordan Barry said.
Though the preparation is lengthy, the performance itself is not very difficult to put on. Many need only go up, perform, and come back off. There is not much to be done the actual day of the assembly.
“It seemed pretty fine, we were able to play easily and walk off,” Conn said.
The dancers, on the other hand, are very busy the day of the performance.
“For dance you have to get makeup on, hair, clothes. It’s a lot,” junior dancer Tabitha Martinez said.
The students who have been in the winter assembly before agree that it’s fun, and those who have yet to be in it are excited to be a part of it.
