National Spanish Honors Society will participate in the Pulsera Project and sell bracelets on senior lawn from Nov. 3 to Nov. 14., for $5.
The Pulsera Project is a program where Nicaraguan families send bracelets to the United States for volunteers to sell. All profits from selling the bracelets go back to benefit the family that made the bracelet.
“[The Pulsera Project] was started to help artisans that had no other means of getting their art out into the world,” NSHS co-president Jessica Pleasant said.
Nicaragua has many families in poverty, because their economy is the worst in South America. The project is one of the most effective ways to help these families.
“For many of the families in Nicaragua, it’s a main source of income for them,” NSHS co-president Theresa Lobato said.
So far, the project has raised over $1,000,000 to create jobs and help communities in Nicaragua.
According to the official Pulsera Project website, www.pulseraproject.org, “Our projects bridge cultures, bring people together, and color the world with beauty and awareness.”
National Spanish Honors Society participates in selling bracelets for this project every year, and each year they donate all the profits directly back to the families in Nicaragua.
“Nicaragua has a terrible economy, and the project helps,” Pleasant said. “When you pay $5 for a bracelet, every penny goes back to the family in South America. It’s one way we can help them, so why not do it?”
