Market Day is coming up on Nov 19. There are many new products this year such as thermoses, phone cases for the iPhone, bucket hats, and jewelry.
Each year is different as far as how successful Market day turns out to be. Robin Palmer teaches an entrepreneurship class, and the students design their own products to what the overall students at McClintock would buy.
The students in the class pitch in their own money to make their products and whatever profit they make the students can keep.
“For example, students budget can be $100, but in profit they can make $400,” Palmer said.
There are 18 teams with three to five people on each.
Each team comes up with their own product based on what they think will sell well. The better the product, the more it will sell for. More common products such as t-shirts and beanies will also be sold.
“Market Day teaches students what it’s like to make business decisions,” Palmer said.
Market Day is real world based. Since all the money, for input costs, comes from the students, they have to work even harder to get that money back and still make a profit.
