Be fond of Fong

Tyrone Fong is one of many biologists and the only anatomist here at McClintock high school.

Fong is a well-known teacher around campus and is known for the interesting dissections that occur in room 1203.

“(I have been teaching here at McClintock for about) eight years and I enjoy it a lot and I have done many things since I’ve been here,” Fong said.

Teachers are inspirational and can really be a huge impact on future careers that students want to pursue in the future.

“I like the fact that I can inspire students and that I can introduce them to a new world where they may have never known existed. I like giving students future career advice so that in case they know that they want to study in the science department I can help put them in a certain path and have them prepared for when they go to college things will be much easier,” Fong said.

Anatomy is a very deep down class that explains and answers every question there is to ask about the body.

“I like how it can explain a lot about how your body works and it’s really a specialized study of biology and biology was my favorite subject in high school,” Fong said.

Students are hard to make a connection with and can be complicated to see eye-to-eye with them, but Fong has fond a simple solution to this problem.

“I use a lot of real world examples, if we were talking about a particular system I relate it to certain incidents or procedures that other students may have encountered. I do this for every unit that I teach, I’m pretty well aware of the system that I am teaching what conditions are usually associated with it. Students also have the tendency to share in my class, personal experiences and from those personal experiences, someone else can usually relate to it,” Fong said.

As a students, we wonder if being a teacher as an occupation was our teacher’s first choice, but Fong’s dream career took a whole different route.

“When I was younger I wanted to fly air planes and work for NASA,” Fong said.

Junior Savannah Hernandez takes the time to shine light onto Mr. Fong’s teaching skills.

“My favorite thing about anatomy is learning about how and why different parts of the body function,” Hernandez said.

The cat dissection was the most eye-opener experiment that most students have ever experienced.

“By far, the most memorable experiment was our cat dissection lab because it was my first time dissecting something and it was very hands-on,” Hernandez said.

Science can be a difficult subject especially if it is not the most favored, but Fong makes studying and Anatomy all worthwhile.

“ The hardest thing about Mr. Fong’s class is all of the memorization that comes along with anatomy. The easiest thing are the coloring plates that help us better our study,” Hernandez said.

Advice from a current student of Fong’s makes the choice of selecting Anatomy much easier.

“Remember to take the time to study. If your study habits are good, you’ll go far in Mr. Fong’s class. As with everything else in life, but especially in Anatomy,” Hernandez said.
