Senior Alice Pratt had a busy summer. Pratt was selected for and attended two different leadership programs: Economics for Leaders (EFL) and the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) on Theater.
The economics program, located at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, lasted from June 29 through July 6.
The purpose of EFL is to provide students with an understanding of basic economic principles and to develop their leadership skills.
“We had to work in groups and use our leadership skills in order to solve problems,” Pratt said. “I really enjoyed meeting people from all over the country who had the desire to learn and similar interests.”
She explains why she would attend the program again if she had the chance.
“I would like to experience different group dynamics and observe even more teaching and learning styles,” Pratt said.
At the end of EFL, Pratt quickly prepared for her next conference.
The NSLC on Theater took place at the Fordham University Lincoln Center Campus in New York from July 8-17.
“The purpose of the program was to teach students about leadership within a theater context,” Pratt said.
About 60 students attended this session of the program.
“My reasons for going to the program were to develop my skills in theater and to gain confidence,” she said.
“I wanted to obtain a broad range of experience in theater. I hope to pursue theater in college.”
A typical day included meals on campus, rehearsals for a production simulation, a master class or lecture, and sometimes a show.
“We also had some free time to explore New York,” Pratt said. “We saw the sights and got to see three different productions, both on and off Broadway.”
