The McClintock Fine Arts Department will be taking 146 students to New York from Wed., Apr. 8 to Sun., Apr. 12. The people going will be students in advanced fine arts classes, including choir, orchestra, band, drama, dance, and stagecraft.
The group will be leaving Arizona on Apr. 8. While in New York, there will be a variety of activities planned out (tentative as of now) for students spanning the three days they will be there.
“I’m really excited to see the Broadway show. Broadway has always been my thing, so that’s what I’m really excited for,” junior Jacob Hawkins said.
Because of ticket complications, the students aren’t completely sure what the Broadway show they’ll be seeing will be. However, it’s very likely the show will be An American in Paris.
“I would’ve said the Broadway show would be what I’m looking forward to if we were seeing Aladdin, but right now I feel like [my favorite part will] be Times Square at night. I feel like that’ll be really pretty,” junior Rowen McLeod said.
Apart from the Broadway show and the trip to Times Square, students will be taking Master Classes and performing for the IMPACT Performance Series. They will be taking the Radio City Music Hall backstage tour and visiting Ellis Island and the 9/11 memorial before returning on Apr. 12.
The purpose of the trip is to enhance the students’ performance skills, but it is not the only reason students have chosen to attend.
“I’m going for the experience. I’ve never been to New York, so that’s always been a huge thing for me. Plus, I’m a huge theatre fan,” Hawkins said.
Though in previous years, it was only performance classes that went on tour, this year stagecraft is also included. In fact, the trip has never been a group trip before.
“Orchestra, band, choir, and dance travel yearly, but this is the first time we’ve all gone on tour together,” orchestra conductor Doreen Press said.
However, one requirement the students must meet before take off is they must be passing all of their classes before the trip.
